Everyone wants their home to have a story. You may want to know who lived in your home before you, and what their lives were like.
But in the world of celebrity real estate, homes are passed from mogul to mogul, and many of them have had their stories splashed on the front page (or shared a million times on Twitter).
Here are some of the most famous celebrity home handoffs in recent memory.
Taylor Swift scoops up Peter Jackson’s loft
America's sweetheart is no stranger to high-profile real estate purchases. From Nashville to Rhode Island to Beverly Hills, the pop princess has had her fair share of unbelievable homes.
But it was her 2014 purchase of "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson's Tribecca penthouse that welcomed her to New York.
The $19.95-million dollar purchase, which occurred close to the release of the singer-songwriter’s hit album “1989,” signaled the shedding of her Nashville boots to fully embrace life in the Big Apple.
The penthouse has 7 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, and has a warehouse feel with exposed brick and wood beams throughout.
Alicia Keys buys Eddie Murphy’s mansion
The girl with the "Empire State of Mind" and her hip-hop husband Swizz Beatz purchased their 8-bedroom, 14-bath Englewood, NJ home complete with 5.42 acres from “Saturday Night Live” legend Eddie Murphy back in 2013.
The music power couple expanded the home with a new wing to make room for their ever-growing art collection.
The mansion’s star-caliber features include an indoor swimming pool, recording studio, movie theater, and bowling alley.
Eddie Murphy picks up Cher’s estate
In 1988, Cher was no longer "Moonstruck" with her Beverly Hills estate, and sold the property to Eddie Murphy. The actor-comedian went on to sell the property in 1995.
The estate with the storied celebrity past, which was expanded to 16 acres complete with a 20,000-square-foot main house, is currently on the market.
The property boasts five stables, trails, a tennis court, and a 7,000-square-foot Moroccan-style guesthouse.
For just $85 million, Cher or Mr. Murphy could "turn back time" to live at their former home.
Chris Hemsworth buys from Crocodile Dundee
"Thor" actor and all-around Hollywood hunk Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky purchased a Malibu Victorian dream home in 2013.
They bought the 4-bedroom beauty from fellow Aussie Paul Hogan, who famously played "Crocodile Dundee" in the '80s.
The stunning home sits on an acre of land, with ocean and mountain views. It was completely restored with modern features thanks to the renovation work of Hogan and then-wife Linda Kozlowski.
Johnny Galecki picks up Jason Statham’s villa
"Big Bang Theory" star Johnny Galecki purchased a Los Angeles villa from action hero Jason Statham for $9.2 million in July 2015.
The 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom home was built in 1929, and still reflects that glamorous era of Hollywood with dark wood beamed ceilings, built-in bookshelves, and brightly colored Spanish tiles on the home's exterior.
The property is accustomed to housing celebrities, as its owner before Statham was comedy legend Ben Stiller.
Ice Cube buys from Jean-Claude Van Damme
Ice Cube couldn't believe what a good day it was when he purchased action star Jean-Claude Van Damme's Marina del Rey home for $7.25 million.
The home is custom fit for a star, with 7,574-square-feet of living space that features a home gym, home theater, wine cellar, and an elevator.
The property’s rooftop deck with a pool is the perfect spot for King Ice and Queen Coco to survey their L.A. kingdom.
Kendall Jenner buys Blunt & Krasinski’s home
Kendall Jenner, model superstar and one of the heirs to the Kardashian reality throne, recently purchased a Hollywood Hills home from A-list couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.
Jenner paid $6.5 million for the three-story, 4,500-square-foot home. Its notable features include a retractable glass wall that leads out to the backyard and pool, and a third-floor deck that provides beautiful views of the hills.
Also noteworthy is the neighbor Jenner has inherited from the Blunt-Krasinski bunch: late night host Jimmy Kimmel.
Josh Hutcherson snags Ellen’s home
Josh Hutcherson's first LA home purchase would give the Victor’s Village home occupied by his “Hunger Games” character Peeta a run for its money.
The Hollywood Hills home, which he purchased in 2012, formerly belonged to talk-show host and real estate queen Ellen DeGeneres, who sold it to Heath Ledger and then-girlfriend Michelle Williams in 2005.
Though the home is relatively modest inside, with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and 1,800 square feet of living space, it’s nicknamed "the treehouse" for its expansive outdoor living area.
Set amid abundant foliage, the home boasts multiple decks, a screening area, and a barbecue and dining area.
Ellen picks up Brad Pitt’s bachelor pad
Talk show legend and fabulous dancer Ellen DeGeneres purchased Brad Pitt's remodeled Malibu bachelor pad back in 2011 for $12 million.
Pitt, who is apparently quite the renovator, spent months updating the charming seaside mid-century modern home.
The 4-bedroom, 4-bath home features a wall of windows in the living room, which undoubtedly gave DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi spectacular views of sunsets over the Pacific.
The home also has a tennis court and outdoor pool complete with cabana area.
Ryan Seacrest buys Ellen and Portia’s estate
Ryan Seacrest, America's favorite host and the man behind the Kardashian reality TV empire, purchased Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's Beverly Hills estate for a whopping $49 million back in 2012.
A true power couple in real estate, DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the home in 2007, then shortly after bought the neighboring parcel, which expanded the estate's property to the size of a city block - and supports the hefty price tag.
The home turned out to be the perfect setup for Seacrest and his Kardashian entourage, with a pool, high-end security, multiple guest houses, offices, a meditation room, and a tennis court.
