John McEnroe Serves Up Southampton Tennis Estate for Sale

shutterstock_277809497Tennis legend John McEnroe, who has seven Grand Slam singles titles to his name, is giving up the home court advantage on his Southampton mansion. He’s asking $14.5 million for the property, which, of course, includes a top-notch tennis court.

The street name seems appropriate for the home of a tennis star well-known for his confrontational on-court style: 11 Squabble Lane. This is prime Hamptons real estate, built in 1996 and previously owned by Standard Oil baron Henry Rogers.

The home comes with coveted deeded beach access just down the lane from the 2.17-acre lot. Perhaps you'll run into neighbors Howard Stern, Calvin Klein and Brooke Shields during your sunset stroll.

Inside, the traditional-contemporary home has plenty of space, with 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, and formal and casual dining spaces. Plenty of windows, balconies, and terraces let in the warm beach-side breeze, and they all offer views of the lawns, gardens and pool. The master suite alone has 2 bathrooms and its own balcony.

This house seems designed for tranquility and relaxation. Doze in the sunroom, bring a book from the library to the poolside, or sink into a spacious porcelain bathtub with a view of the gardens. Each of the 7 guest rooms is secluded in its own wing, allowing guests and hosts to enjoy maximum privacy.

Perhaps McEnroe likes to save the fireworks for the tennis court on the property - along with the ATP Champions Tour senior tennis tournaments the 57 year old still plays and wins. The Har-tru tennis court is fully landscaped and ready for your singles or doubles practice.

Who knows, maybe McEnroe will throw in some tennis lessons for the new owner of this marvelous estate.

Kathy Konzet of Sotheby’s International Realty, Inc. holds the listing.
