Rumor has it actor Tobey Maguire and his jewelry-designer wife, Jennifer Meyer, have found the ultimate in hidden artist’s bungalows, as first reported by Variety.
The movie star, known best by many as Spider-Man, has a flair for collecting real estate and seems to have found the recently revived 1920s artist hideaway irresistible. The Santa Monica home feels private thanks to its mature landscaping, but is close to the city's shopping hot spot.
The property includes two separate buildings: a restored 3-bedroom bungalow, and a 2-story art studio.
The cozy Mission-style bungalow is charmingly covered in vines and native landscaping, while a series of outdoor patios and a gravel courtyard lead to the studio. Architect Ruben Ojeda updated the bungalow by adding a second floor, which brought ceilings up and more natural light inside.
Cool and modern, the home is minimalist but comfortable. Exposed woodwork and unique windows and doors add architectural interest, while sleek stainless steel appliances, recessed lighting and wood floors keep things ultra-sophisticated. An outdoor sleeping porch makes Southern California living easy.
The art studio offers 1,200 square feet of space to use for any creative venture - or as a guest house or home office. The open second story features a wall of windows and a few skylights, so the artist is never without working light.
The mini-compound sold for $2.675 million, and represents one of Maguire's less-expensive real estate holdings. Perhaps the star is itching for another lucrative real estate flip, like the Brentwood home he made nearly $2 million on earlier this year. Perhaps he should give some real estate lessons to the co-creator of the Spider-Man character, Marvel Comics maven Stan Lee, who sold his last home at a loss to buy a new LA mansion this year.
The property was listed and sold by Scott King and Brian Linder of Deasy Penner & Partners.
